“So, we’ll go no more a roving So late into the night,
Though the heart be still as loving,
And the moon be still as bright.”

Lord George Gordon Byron

(da So we’ll go no more a-roving, in Poesie, 1817)

You should visit Portovenere near Cinque Terre, a small village by the sea located on the western shore of the Gulf of Poets.

A beautiful walk through the village, leads to the Church of St. Peter and to the Byron cave, dedicated to the famous English poet. A headstone commemorates a legendary Lord Byron’s swimming crossing, made in 1822, from Portovenere to neighbouring Lerici, to reach his friend Percy B. Shelley and his wife Mary who were staying in the village of San Terenzo.
